Oxford Green Party are delighted that Kate Robinson has been elected to represent Marston ward in the by-election on the 18th July. This is the first time that Greens have won a by-election in Oxford since 2004.
Kate has lived in the area for 20 years. She works as a public librarian and previously taught in Birmingham and Oxfordshire state schools. She is a fantastic local campaigner who co-founded Marston Community Gardening and Northway and Marston Community Kitchen.
Kate said “I am hugely proud to represent the people of Marston with other Oxford City Green councillors. I am so pleased that we won with our positive, hopeful Green messages.”
Kate will be building on the successes of Green Councillor Alistair Morris, who has been a hugely popular councillor, elected in 2022. Alistair consistently pushed the City Council to do more to protect the local environment and create a more sustainable food system, as well as empowering residents in Marston to improve their local community. Alistair had to stand down for health reasons and will be much missed on the City Council, but the Green Party is incredibly thankful for the work he has done to make our city a better, fairer and greener place to live.
This result comes after the Green Party gained two seats on Oxford City Council earlier in the year, and came second in Oxford East at the general election, in spite of Labour winning a huge majority nationally. Across Oxford, more and more people are voting Green – raising our prospects in the Oxfordshire County Council elections next year. Labour came third in the by-election behind the Independent Oxford Alliance – a newly formed political party running on an anti LTN, anti bus filter, anti Zero Emission Zone platform.
Kate and Oxford City Green Party would like to thank the fantastic team of volunteers who gave their time during the last few weeks, who made such an important contribution to this amazing result.
