It’s been announced that Labour are floating the idea of scraping the UK’s £2 bus fair cap in its upcoming budget. Oxford Greens are mobilizing to campaign strongly against this possible decision.
Local campaigner and Green Party County Council candidate Emma Garnett says “If this comes to fruition, scrapping the £2 fare cap is a terrible decision by Rachel Reeves and Labour and I strongly hope they change track. In a cost of living and climate crisis we need to be making bus services cheap, frequent and reliable. The Tories introduced the £2 fare cap. Labour are axing it. It’s pretty shocking that Labour are currently worse on public transport than the Tories.”
