Edward Mundy is a City Councillor for Cowley ward. Edward was first elected as a Labour Councillor in Holywell ward in 2021 and re-elected in 2022. In October 2023, alongside nine other Councillors in Oxford, he left the Labour Party over Keir Starmer saying that Israel had the right to cut off water and electricity in Gaza – widely understood to be collective punishment and therefore a war crime. Following his departure from the Labour Party he sat in the Oxford Community Independents group. In January 2026, he joined the Greens and now sits as a Green Party Councillor.
Edward Mundy has held a number of senior roles on Oxford City Council. He was the Labour Group whip for two years and served as chair of the General Purposes Licensing Committee for four years. Presently, he is vice-chair of the Licensing and Gambling Acts Committee.
Edward has a trade unionist background, having represented postal workers across Oxfordshire during one of the most bitter postal strikes in decades. He now helps local people in OX4 as an adviser, so he is acutely aware of the issues that are impacting families in Cowley during the cost of living crisis.
