Sushila, who has lived in Oxford for 40 years, joined the Green Party in 1991, and was elected to Oxfordshire County Council in 1996, forming the first ever County Council Green Group with Caroline Lucas.
Together they created the first Green County budget, showing how Green policy can be turned into practical steps to promote equality, well-being and sustainability within a legal framework. She was a Green County Councillor for 9 years, and a Green City Councillor for 5 years.
Sushila has always worked on the frontline, with homeless and marginalised people, and for the last 20 years has worked in East Oxford for a charity supporting refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants to rebuild their lives as part of Oxford’s diverse communities. Her passions are equality, justice and Green transport initiatives.
Sushila was a wonderful colleague on Oxfordshire County Council, smart, bold and fearless – as well as being an incredibly hard working champion for local residents. She’s a great listener, always making a point of hearing all views before coming to her own decisions, and never afraid to think outside the box. Innovative and creative, she would make a brilliant MP.
– Caroline Lucas, former Green MP

His books have won prizes and commendations. He is also an active investor in young climate-related companies, including Oxwash, the business that is revolutionising commercial laundry from its original base in Oxford.
